The corporate assembly's responsibilities

The assembly is responsible for monitoring the management of the company by the directors and the chief executive. It also takes the final decision on proposals from the board concerning substantial investments as well as rationalisations or restructurings of the business which have significant consequences for the work force. In addition, the corporate assembly recommends to the general meeting whether it should approve the annual account presented by the board, and the board's proposal for the application of a profit or coverage of a loss. It can also make recommendations to the board on any issue.

Norwegian legislation on the corporate assembly system rests on considerations of industrial democracy and the right of workers to exercise influence and be consulted. Elections for worker members of the assembly by and among the workforce are held every other year. The next election is in 2011.
