Being able to document responsible business practices based on our values, policies and guidelines is important for a global company like Norske Skog.

Norske Skog’s goal is to create competitive shareholder values in the paper industry. Important instruments for achieving this objective include good principles for corporate governance and a clearly defined division of responsibilities and roles between the company’s governing bodies.
Sustainability reporting
Norske Skog shall create value for people and society in a responsible way, while promoting a sustainable environment and principles of circular economy.
We are concerned to ensure living and viable forests. All wood used in our production comes from sustainable forestry. Our sustainable forest management standards have been developed jointly by leading environmental and recreational organisations, forest owner associations and representatives of the paper industry. This shows that the development is sustainable. Recovered paper is an important fibre source for Norske Skog.
Our mills work continuously to reduce emissions and discharges. At Norske Skog, we believe that industry must participate actively in the process to control climate change. Together with other international companies, we have made a commitment to ensuring that industry contributes to the process of putting a global, long-term, market based emissions reduction framework in place. Our product lifecycle provides unique opportunities to curb climate change. Our main raw material, wood, is a renewable resource. Sustainably managed forests act as carbon sinks as they absorb CO2 from the atmosphere and store it as carbon in the wood. This carbon is further stored in our products that can be recycled many times, and at the end of their life cycle they can be used to generate bioenergy
Our group has been a pioneer in setting a global standard for social responsibility and worker-management relations. We were the first international paper manufacturer to sign an agreement with the International Federation of Chemical, Energy, Mine and General Workers’ Unions (ICEM) and the Norwegian United Federation of Trade Unions concerning employee rights on a global basis. We were also an early adopter of the 10 principles in the UN Global Compact. Through our development programme for managers and employees, the whole organisation is being familiarised with the values, ethical standards and good business conduct on which we build our business.
