Water management and water profile
Water management is a focus at all Norske Skog mills. 98% of the water taken into the mills is returned to the waterways after treatment to fulfil the local quality requirements for water discharges.

The Chief Financial Officer, by his liasson officer Head of Sustainability Mari Mogen (picture), is responsible for developing and maintaining the global environmental policy, and for specifying and following up strategic environmental targets.
We adhere to sustainable development principles and continuously strive to enhance our environmental performance. Our mills set and report on annual targets for key environmental indicators. We ensure our fibre raw material originates from sustainably managed forests, preserving productivity and biodiversity, and work to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through efficient energy use and alternative sources.
We emphasize circularity by promoting the reuse and recycling of materials, reducing waste, and enhancing the sustainability of our products. We also focus on sustainability in our value chain, expecting high environmental performance from our suppliers to align with our standards.
Our operations comply with all relevant legislation and statutory requirements, often exceeding national or local standards. We utilize externally verified standards, such as ISO 14001, to ensure our management and wood purchasing systems meet our environmental goals and targets.
